Coach Bus Option: Regular long-distance coaches depart from Kunming East Coach Terminal directly toward the Stone Forest. This journey takes around 1.5 to 2 hours.

Kunming City Transport: Kunming has a rapidly expanding Metro system that is a fast and affordable way to travel between major districts and the airports/train stations. Public buses and taxis are also widely available.

From the Airport: Metro Line 6 connects Kunming Changshui International Airport (KMG) to the city’s overall metro network, making it an easy and budget-friendly transfer option.

Getting Around the Stone Forest: The scenic area is large. While walking is key for close-up views, an internal sightseeing shuttle bus/cart runs between the main sections (Greater, Lesser, Naigu) and is essential for covering long distances and saving time.

The “Spring City” Climate: Kunming is famously known for its pleasant, mild, and spring-like climate year-round, making it a comfortable destination even in the winter. Spring and Autumn (March-May and September-November) are often cited as the best times to visit for weather and scenery.

Respect Ethnic Minorities: The Stone Forest is located in the Shilin Yi Autonomous County, home to the Sani people (a branch of the Yi ethnic group). Be respectful of their customs, especially when photographing people or attending a cultural event like the Torch Festival.

Walk Safely: Within the Stone Forest, wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes with good grip. The karst terrain can have uneven paths, steps, and can be slippery when wet.
