Enjoy a Traditional Brazilian Dinner and Show: Attend a dinner and cultural show (like the popular Rafain Churrascaria) that features music and dance from across Brazil and Latin America.
Local Tips & Transport
Park Shuttle and Walking:
Brazilian Side: Once inside the park, a double-decker bus system transports visitors from the main entrance to all the major trails, viewpoints, and activity centers. The main trail is mostly a paved, easy downhill walk.
Argentinian Side: A free ecological train transports visitors between the park entrance, the Devil’s Throat station, and the Cataratas station (for the Upper and Lower Circuits). The circuits themselves are best explored on foot.
Buses:
Local Buses: Foz do Iguaçu has an efficient and very affordable local bus system. Bus #120 runs regularly from the city terminal to the Brazilian National Park (Parque Nacional do Iguaçu) and the airport.
Cross-Border: Direct buses or shared/private vans are the most common way to cross between Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil) and Puerto Iguazú (Argentina). They will stop at the immigration checkpoints for passport control.
Taxis and Ride-Sharing:
Taxis and ride-sharing apps (like Uber/99) are readily available in Foz do Iguaçu and are a convenient, slightly more expensive way to get around, especially for getting to the airport or the parks.
Border Crossing Essentials:
Always carry your passport when visiting the falls, even if you are just planning to visit the Argentinian side for a few hours.
Which Side to Visit:
Brazilian Side: Offers the best panoramic view (you see the whole landscape) and is generally a shorter visit (half-day).
Argentinian Side: Offers the most intimate, up-close experience (you walk over and next to the falls) and requires a full day to explore all the circuits. Tip: Visit the Argentinian side first for the “wow” factor of proximity, then the Brazilian side for the final panoramic view.
Park Timing and Tickets:
Go Early: Both parks can get crowded, especially the Devil’s Throat viewpoint. Arrive right when the park opens (usually 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM) to beat the major crowds and the intense heat.
Advance Tickets: Purchase tickets online in advance for both the Brazilian and Argentinian parks to save time waiting in line.
Currency and Payment:
Brazil: The currency is the Real (R$). Major credit cards are widely accepted in Foz do Iguaçu and the main park facilities.
Argentina: The currency is the Peso Argentino (ARS). Small businesses may only accept cash, and it is a good idea to have some Pesos for local shopping or tips in Puerto Iguazú.
Tip: Some businesses in Foz will accept US Dollars, but always check the exchange rate offered.
Hidden Gems and Practicalities:
Dress Code: Wear comfortable walking shoes, as you will be covering many miles on the trails. Bring a light rain jacket or poncho—even if it’s not raining, the mist from the falls will soak you!
The Mosquito Effect: Apply strong insect repellent before entering both national parks, as the sub-tropical forest is home to many insects.
The Power of the Forest: The falls are surrounded by one of the last remnants of the Atlantic Forest. Look out for the coatis (small, long-nosed mammals)—they are very cute but will try to steal your food, so do not feed them!
Cataratas Road (Brazilian Side): If time allows, consider walking down the main road on the Brazilian side instead of taking the bus. It’s a quieter way to spot wildlife like capuchin monkeys and toucans.
